UNITE ORGANISING STRATEGY AND THE THREE PILLARS
Organising and the 100% Membership Campaign are at the core of Unite the Union activities.
Without dynamic organising, we are unlikely to grow our membership – that is why organising, and the massive contribution made by you, our reps and activists in the workplace, are vital to the sustainability of our union.
As workplace reps and activists, we should always aim to get 100% membership in each workplace and promote grassroots activism within our union’s overall organising strategy.
Only through strong collective workplace organisation which unites workers around their common causes can Unite not only maintain, but also bolster its position as Britain and Ireland’s biggest and best trade union - for this to succeed, we need vibrant and knowledgeable reps and activists, armed with the confidence to grow our membership.
So, organising is key. In order to fight to defend public services and our members’ Jobs, we will need to educate and politicise our members. Indeed, within our overall strategy and along with organising collectively, we also need to be aware of the importance of politics and the international agenda – these make up the three pillars of Unite.
With all the economic woes we’ve had domestically, we should not forget the importance of our international agenda. Already we’ve created Workers Uniting, the world’s first global trade union, which believes “An injury to one is an injury to all”.
An organising union, and a strongly political union which lobbies and campaigns for its members, with a strong commitment to International Solidarity is what my colleagues and I wish for now and the future – that is what Unite stands for!!
